So I just reread Alan Moore's and Dave Gibbons's Watchmen again for the whateverth time.  God, it is just so good.  I was even annoyed less by the pirate comic book than I usually am when I read it.  It touches me in a lovely place.  The intricacy, the way nothing goes unused, the layering, and of course... the symmetry.



Humans are pattern recognition machines.  We do this better than any machine yet invented.  That's why I love Harold improv structures and often write based on Mike Myer's "The end is in the beginning" quote from Truth in Comedy. Moore and Gibbons use a lot of symmetry and patterns in the story.  It's not just Rorshach, it's everywhere.  The first and last image of the series, Rorshach's backstory, the Comedian and what he meant to certain characters, Dr. Manhattan's time references.  Christ, even the trailer for the movie uses Smashing Pumpkin's song "The Beginning Is the End Is the Beginning", an alternate version of their song "The End Is the Beginning Is the End".

For a person with a symmetry OCD, this book is porn.
